As an artist, I love to create and perform a variety of different artistic products. I use songwriting, singing, and piano playing as both an emotional release and as a way to connect with others. As an actor and director, I believe that theater can have a huge impact on the world by presenting stories that can often get people of all types to understand perspectives that they might not otherwise. Because of this, I love being a part of the theater community in as many ways as I can. I believe any kind of art can create connection and ultimately, my main goal as an artist is to create work that relates to an audience and connects an audience to each other.
When creating and performing in theater, I participate both onstage and behind the scenes so as to take advantage of all the opportunities available. I love being on stage, portraying the character that tells the audience a story, but I also love to work behind the scenes, helping form what that character’s story looks like, and how the story will be told through technical design and execution. I also love to participate in theatrical projects that give me the chance to incorporate music, working in both my art forms at once.
When writing music, I have found I write for a variety of different reasons. Sometimes, I start with a vocal melody and build from there, sometimes it’s a lyric, and sometimes I simply want to write a song so I sit down at the piano and start with a chord progression. Regardless of how I begin the process, all three of these elements eventually come together to build a full song. Once I have created this song, I love to perform it for others to find an audience that can connect to the story I am telling. I have felt a connection with many artists and their work and I am working towards being one of those artists for others someday.
It is an incredibly rewarding experience to get the chance to share my creations with others and see how they are affected. I want to do that for the rest of my life.
